The Guide to GSA Life and Campus

The view of the Reid building and a Guide to Glasgow, a gift from Martha

On Monday,  24 June, we had a visit from Martha and Maja, two Student Ambassadors, who are currently studying at GSA. They got invited to share their own experience of Glasgow and to introduce us to the daily life of Glasgow and the campus of GSA.

Martha presents her guide booklet

Life in the Glasgow

Martha made a booklet of the Glasgow life and gave a presentation about this; she told us about the galleries, cafes, restaurants, music venues, cinemas, parks, shops and transportation to help us enjoy the city. After her presentation, we asked her several questions. For example, one student asked her about the music hall in Glasgow. Martha also talked about the food in Glasgow. She told us she liked to go to the School Canteen where they serve cheap but delicious food.

The student asks Martha a question which she answers with real passion

The campus of GSA

The next step was a short tour of the GSA campus. Martha and Maja took us around the campus and made us full of interest because the GSA buildings are dispersed and the facilities are fantastic.

There are various facilities at GSA: a cafe, a lecture theatre, a canteen & activities room

We went to the GFT - Glasgow Film Theatre - which is a cinema where we have lectures and can go to see movies.

Then we strolled to the Haldane Building, where Design students study; the Bourdon Building where Architecture students are based; the Library; and then the Stow Building, where Fine Art is. And the trip was finished in the Reid Building where more Design students have their studios, and where the canteen is!

The Reid Building

What impressed us the most is the Reid building, which is also the building we visited at the end. The design style of the main building is very special because it has several atrium spaces throughout the building, and in each learning space students can easily meet to discuss their projects with others.

The most popular part of the building is the canteen, which has large floor-to-ceiling windows that allow people to enjoy the scenery and sunshine while eating. Of course, the most important thing is that the restaurant price is very cheap, which makes us feel even better about it.

Ending

Although the guided trip was short, we all enjoyed the introduction to the GSA life & campus. We are very grateful to Martha and Maja for their enthusiasm. We all think the people who live in Glasgow are also warm-hearted, which makes us feel like at home!
